A Support System Throughout The Years

Sometimes, in life, we hit an unexpected curve. After a divorce, Wendy Turrell, Allegheny, had to figure out how to navigate her new reality. In the fallout of the divorce, many of Wendy’s plans had fallen through. Her house needed refurbishing and she was pursuing a master’s degree at night while working full time. Despite her efforts, she could not afford both tuition and home refurbishing. Wendy felt vulnerable, yet her dream of completing a master’s degree drove her to work harder than ever.
Over the years, Wendy has stayed connected to Kappa. During her various moves and life changes, she always joined the local alumnae association, where she found and maintained her connection and ties to Kappa. Wendy found that Kappa had always been a support system and she needed it more than ever after her divorce. She applied for a Rose McGill Grant and received aid to cover her graduate school fees. This support allowed her to complete her major life goal of receiving a master’s degree in communications from the University of Akron.
“It was a lifesaver for me,” Wendy says. Years later, after achieving her goals and making it through the difficult times, Wendy wanted to give back to the sisterhood that supported her when she needed it most. “I always said I would do something to help somebody else in the same position.”
Updating her will to include the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation gave Wendy the opportunity to achieve the goal of helping Kappas who need it. Wendy’s estate gift will support the sisterhood that means so much to her for years to come.
