Learn about the new Fraternity nominating process

12/20/2022

The Leadership Selection Committee (formerly the Nominating Committee) will be formed from a broad representation of the membership. This committee will work from March 2023 through August 2024 to educate the membership on the nominating process and, ultimately, identify a slate of Fraternity Council officers and District Directors for the 2024–26 Biennium.

Here are five things to know about the Leadership Selection Committee (LSC) and the new nominating and election timeline.

  1. The LSC’s work is critical to sustaining the organization’s short- and long-term future.

The LSC is tasked with compiling and presenting a slate of officers for Fraternity Council and 14 District Directors.

Once elected, Fraternity Council will appoint Content Directors and committee chairs to oversee specific content areas.

Together, these volunteers set the course for the Fraternity, impacting the sisterhood experience for our more than 248,500 members.

  1. The LSC will be formed from a broad representation of the membership.

An application process will be used to identify interested and passionate members who wish to serve on the Leadership Selection Committee. Members are not required to be a chapter or association officer or part of an alumnae association to serve on this committee, allowing for more members to be involved in the process.

Representation will be from alternating districts. Collegiate members (at the time of selection) who attend a university in Alpha, Beta, Delta, Eta, Theta, Mu, and Pi districts OR an alumna member who lives in Gamma, Kappa, Lambda, Epsilon, Zeta, Xi, and Rho districts may apply.

The Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) Committee will review LSC applications and make recommendations to Fraternity Council as to who should serve on the committee. Fraternity Council appoints the Leadership Selection Committee, which is led by a chair and vice chair. The LSC members will be announced in spring 2023.

  1. The Leadership Selection Committee will serve from spring 2023 until August 2024.

This will allow LSC members to be effectively trained and properly prepared for their roles. Training will include unconscious bias training; deep dives into the Fraternity’s strategic plan, the organizational structure and position descriptions; and current trends in higher education and Kappa. The committee will also educate the membership on the nominating process, and, finally, will conduct the nominating process to present a slate of officers to the membership. The Leadership Selection Committee will announce the slate of nominees in spring 2024.

Eligible voters may make additional nominations for Fraternity Council and District Director positions after the slate is announced.

  1. Elections for Fraternity Council and District Director positions will be held virtually in spring 2024.

The results of the elections will be announced several weeks prior to Convention 2024. The virtual election makes it possible for more members to be involved. Unfortunately, the cost to attend Convention has been a barrier to participation in elections, specifically for our alumnae associations. With the virtual election, all delegates will be able to vote.

Prior to Convention, officer and District Director transitions will take place to ensure continuity of leadership. Ultimately, this will prepare new leaders to do their jobs successfully and better serve the membership. New officers and District Directors will be installed at the close of Convention 2024, which will be held at the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort & Spa from June 27–29, 2024.
