Federal Judge in Wyoming Dismisses Litigation

On August 25, a federal judge in Wyoming dismissed litigation that had been filed against Kappa Kappa Gamma over the right of a private fraternal organization to choose its members at the University of Wyoming. In dismissing the case against Kappa, the judge ruled the plaintiffs in this case failed to state any plausible claim and that some of the allegations the plaintiffs made were “unbefitting a federal court.”
Kappa applauds the court’s ruling and looks forward to moving past this lawsuit so we can continue the important work being done every day on behalf of all of our members. The full order dismissing the plaintiffs’ lawsuit can be read here.
Since 2015 our position statements have made clear we are an organization composed of women and individuals who identify as women. Further, all 26 organizations that are members of the National Panhellenic Conference have policies, like Kappa, that allow their collegiate chapters to admit transgender women.
We know that Kappa’s strength is our diverse membership, composed of amazing women who bring a variety of life experiences and viewpoints to Kappa Kappa Gamma. And, while we may continue to disagree on certain topics, we are committed to moving the organization forward together.
