Went Kappa: A Bid Day to Remember
10/6/2021
When Hermine Granberry, Mississippi, went through Recruitment, she was looking for a group of women to call sisters and a place to call home away from home. With a younger sister of her own, Hermine knew how special the bond of sisterhood was and she was hoping to find connections that could replicate what she had with her sister.
By the sisterhood round of Recruitment, Hermine loved Kappa. “It always felt like a place where I could take a deep breath. I didn’t have to put on a show and they saw me for me,” she says. The genuine conversations she had in the Kappa house meant so much to her.
When Bid Day rolled around, Hermine went Kappa. Everyone donned their blue and blue and welcomed new sisters to Delta Rho Chapter, Mississippi.
Waiting for Hermine on the porch was her grandmother, Jane Partridge Herring, Mississippi, who is a founding member of Delta Rho. “She was in this beautiful blue suit. She was always dressed to the nines,” says Hermine.
“I remember her saying, ‘Hermine, I’m not just your grandmother, I’m your sister.’” Hermine says she’ll hold these memories for a lifetime.
“I found a sisterhood in Kappa that has given me the most selfless and kindhearted people I have ever met,” wrote Hermine when sharing why she went Kappa on Instagram. “They demonstrate the same loving spirit that my grandmother showed me and everyone she met. I could never thank Kappa enough for giving me these memories and friendships to hold on to forever.”
